50Th Anniversary Celebration

Did you know that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley (BBBSL) held its first annual general meeting in April 1974 with just ten active Big Brothers? By September of the same year, the organization was granted chapter status by Big Brothers of B.C., marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. Within four months, the membership had nearly doubled, and today, BBBSL is proud to support over 60 community-based matches and 46 in-school matches, making a significant difference in the lives of local youth.

In September 2023, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a special event that brought together past and present volunteers, mentors, and supporters. The celebration was a memorable afternoon of reflection, connection, and honoring the incredible impact the agency has had over the years.

The event featured a display of 50 years of memorabilia, including BBBSL glassware, vintage signs, photographs, and newspaper clippings. These items serve as a powerful reminder of the agency’s humble beginnings, the dedication of community members, and the ongoing commitment to providing youth mentorship programs.

As we look forward to the next 50 years, we remain committed to continuing the mission of fostering positive change in our community.
